Frequently Asked Questions
At our Flagstaff massage studio, we believe great care starts with education, trust, and personalized treatment. Below, you’ll find answers to common questions about our Flagstaff massage services, therapists, and approach to whole-body wellness.
Where are you located and is there parking?
We are proudly locally owned and operated in the heart of Downtown Flagstaff, Arizona. One of the best perks of visiting our clinic is that Back to Healing has its own dedicated parking lot, so you never have to worry about finding a spot or paying for street parking before your session.
Do you offer couples massages?
While we have a talented collaboration of therapists and can often book two separate sessions at the same time for friends or partners, we do not have a dedicated couples room. All sessions are conducted in private, individual treatment rooms to ensure a focused and quiet environment for your recovery.
What should I expect during my first visit?
Your first visit begins with a brief intake process where we discuss your medical history, current pain levels, and wellness goals. If you are a new client, don’t forget that you receive a $10 discount on your "Welcome Session." We use this time to build a customized treatment plan that fits your specific needs.
What is the difference between Deep Tissue and Medical Massage?
While both involve firmer pressure, they have different goals. Our Deep Tissue Massage is designed to address classic stress points (neck, shoulders, low back) with a firm, rhythmic flow. Medical Massage is a clinical, outcome-based treatment focused on specific conditions or injuries, such as post-surgical recovery or chronic nerve impingement.
I am an athlete; do I need to undress for a Sports Massage?
No. Our Sports Massage is a specialized, clothed session. We ask that you wear comfortable, athletic clothing that allows for a full range of motion. This session focuses heavily on PNF stretching and functional movement to help you get back to the trails or the gym faster.
Is prenatal massage safe, and can I lay on my stomach?
Yes! Prenatal massage is very safe after the first trimester. At Back to Healing, we are proud to offer a specialized prenatal bolster system. Unlike many clinics that only offer side-lying positions, our equipment allows expectant mothers to safely and comfortably lay face-down, providing much-needed relief for the spine and hips. We always recommend consulting with your physician before your first session.
Do you offer any discounts for seniors?
Absolutely. We value our Flagstaff elders. Clients aged 70 and older are invited to book our Geriatric Massage Session, which includes a $10 discount. These sessions are tailored for comfort, focusing on circulation and joint mobility with a gentle touch.
What is PNF stretching?
PNF stands for Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation. It is an advanced form of flexibility training that involves both the stretching and contracting of the muscle group being targeted. It is one of the most effective ways to increase range of motion and is a core component of our Sports Massage sessions.
How often should I get a massage?
Frequency depends on your goals. For chronic pain management or injury rehabilitation, we may suggest weekly or bi-weekly sessions initially. For general maintenance and stress relief in our high-altitude environment, many of our clients find that one session per month keeps them feeling their best.
